A scene is an important segment of a video which is an assemblage of shots into a meaningful unit. It is breakpoint where video can be segmented into useful sub-segments which can be indexed or tagged for easy access in archives or online. Scene change detection is a technique used to identify the transition of one scene to another. This paper explores the existing related scene detection techniques present their strengths, weakness, highlights general problems related to scene detection and future trend of scene change.
